Valencia increases its tourist offer with the opening of one of Europe’s biggest zoos

10 March 2008

The zoo’s Director, Koen Brower, quoted California’s San Diego zoo, one of the most famous in the world, as a reference to the Valencian version, as well as Sea World. Together with the Oceanogràfic, Bioparc will consolidate its tourist offer. For this reason, the intention is to have a combined rate to see both facilities. The investment made by the Rain Forest Company came to € 60 million. Maldonado made a direct reference to a high-ranking executive at Bancaja that "trusted us and our dream, and we are forever grateful to him."

None of Bioparc’s animals were bought. All the animals were exchanges from other zoos. There are already 80% of them sleeping in their shelters, although some of them will not be seen yet. The gorillas, for example, are still adapting to their new surroundings.Bioparc is located at the head of the old riverbed. Two hectares will need to be urbanised to recreate the Asian and African environment. Another surface area of the same size will house an amusement park with an Oriental city theme, which will respect the environment."If we lose nature, we will lose the possibility of being human." This was one of the sentences that had the most impact on those attending the amphitheatre yesterday. The new zoo will cost € 20 for adults, € 15 for children, and € 16.50 for pensioners.
