People who are living in Malaga can now enjoy improved access to the city of Cordoba, it has been reported.
According to the Typically Spanish website, work on a motorway link between the two locations has now been completed.
This means that motorists in the Costa del Sol can reach the Andalusian city in just one hour and 30 minutes - half the time it took six years ago.
The opening of the Encinas Reales bypass is notable because it comes after many years of construction work.
Indeed, the road has what Typically Spanish describes as the "dubious honour" of having taken longer to build that any other motorway in Spain.
However, after 15 years of work, the 100 km stretch is now up and running and open to motorists in the region.
This comes after a survey by Vauxhall revealed that Spain is one of the main hotspots for Britons for wish to go on a driving holiday overseas.
