Torrevieja tourist numbers increasing

11 February 2008

A growing number of people are choosing to spend their holidays in Torrevieja on the Costa Blanca, new figures have revealed.

Data released by the area's tourist information provider shows that its offices dealt with 275,483 separate inquiries during 2007, which is 15,987 more than the previous year, Round Town News reports.

According to the figures, 58 per cent of the visitors to Torrevieja's information points in 2007 were of non-Spanish nationality, with significant numbers of British, Scandinavian and German people using the service.

However, the city was also shown to be a popular holiday destination for native people and in particular residents of Madrid, as 42 per cent of the Spanish tourists in Torrevieja last year were found to have travelled to the Costa Blanca from the capital.

There are a total of five tourist information points in Torrevieja, with two located on the city's popular beaches of Los Naufrogas and Playa del Cura.

Round Town News recently reported on how the local council in Torrevieja has dealt with the problem of graffiti in the city by commissioning professional artists to cover the walls of public buildings with murals.
