The beach at Marbella is set to be improved in order to prepare the resort for the busy Easter period, it has emerged.
After the area was damaged by an unexpected spell of bad weather recently, the local government has appealed to the coastal authority for help in returning the beach to its former glory, the Costa del Sol News reports.
The beaches at Marbella and San Pedro de Alcantara will both receive treatment, the town hall has said, with sand, palm trees and sea walls to be replaced.
In related news, a local councillor from Nerja has called for more progress in the breakwater project at the resort's Torrecilla beach, the same newspaper reports.
Plans to build protective underwater reefs at the popular beach were revealed in May 2006 but have since stalled, with Jonathan Mendez hoping to revive the project with an appeal to the coastal authority.
The artificial barriers will protect the Nerja beach from the effects of high sea winds and prevent the loss of sand.
Weather conditions on the Costa del Sol have since stabilised, with the temperature rising slightly and sunny days expected in Marbella next week.
