BANCAJA HABITAT is one of the 140 leading companies of the world asking the UN for a legal framework for tackling climate change.
Bancaja Habitat, a signatory to the Bali Communiqué, and consistent with its content, is one of the 140 companies signing the Poznan Communiqué. This initiative once again includes leading companies from the US, Europe, Australia and China. The initiative began with the University of Cambridge’s Programme for Industry and The Prince of Wales's Corporate Leaders Group on Climate Change.
The communiqué affirms that the scientific evidence is irrefutable and that climate change represents very serious social, environmental and economic risks, and that decisive action will stimulate global economic activity. It also argues that the overall targets for greenhouse gas emission reduction for 2010- 2050 must be guided by science to ensure that global levels of these gases remain stable and below critical thresholds.
The 140 companies signing this communiqué are convinced of the need to establish a mechanism for global reductions of emissions, to design plans for reduction of emissions by developing countries, and to revise the Clean Development Mechanism, enabling a much greater transfer of funds and technology from developed to developing countries. Only this can provide business with the certainty and frameworks it needs to scale up global investment in low-carbon technologies.
Regarding the Poznan Conference, the companies call on the heads of state to take this opportunity to agree on a working plan for a full range of negotiations leading to an agreement to come into force by 2012, when the present Kyoto Protocol expires.
